7/21/2023: Our owner, Destiny, had the extreme honor yesterday of receiving the Smart Women Progressive Entrepreneur Award from Smart Business Cleveland. The room was filled with amazing female change makers doing so many impactful things to make our community and our world a better place. What a wonderful experience to be among them! We’re thrilled that our mission of Good Wine Made Fun that Celebrates Cleveland and Creates Community is making an impact too!

3/25/2023: Proud of our owner, Destiny, who was honored by the City of Cleveland Heights as an Outstanding Business Woman of Cleveland Heights at a Women’s History Month ceremony. Wine Club member Lita Gonzalez was also honored as an Amazing Woman of Cleveland Heights for her inspiring work founding and leading The Officer Jason D. West Memorial Fund. What a wonderful night of celebration!

5/4/2022: This was a very important day in the history of the Cedar-Lee neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. We fought hard to defeat Issue 9 which would have delayed or killed a $50M investment in a new residential and commercial development in our district. The vote in the end was not even close and the measure was defeated. Cleveland.com compiled this thoughtful analysis of the issue. We were so happy about this outcome which will bring hundreds of new residents and many new businesses to our neighborhood!
3/29/2022: The documentary that Carl Kriss of Heartland Productions made about us - "Creating Community Through Wine: The CLE Urban Winery Story" has been accepted into the 2022 Women, Wine and Film Festival in the Short Film category!!! 10/5/2021: So excited to announce that we were a top 3 finalist in the 2021 ESPN Cleveland’s Moving Business Forward powered by KeyBank and the Cleveland Cavaliers contest! We won $2500 in gift card business! Our sincere thanks and appreciation to these organizations for all they do for small businesses in Cleveland and congrats to all of the 150+ small business owners who entered!
9/14-18/2021: Destiny had the amazing opportunity to embark on a grand adventure…In early 2020, she got the amazing news that she won the Les Dames d'Escoffier Int'l (LDEI) Wine and Hospitality Legacy Award - four days of immersion in the full spectrum of operations at Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA. COVID had other plans, and her opportunity was postponed. The next year and a half, she kept her head down doing everything humanly possible to keep her little winery up and operating as the world turned upside down - then she finally got the chance to lift up my head and open my mind and heart to experience winery operations on a scale she can barely imagine. She was a sponge and soak it all in, in order to bring a little CA Wine Country magic back to CLE. After her internship at Wente, she spent five days in Napa Valley and three days in Washington’s Columbia Valley wine region... check out our Facebook page for photos and highlights!

CLE Urban Winery in Cleveland Heights isn't your traditional winery: located in a former auto repair garage from the 1920s, this urban winery brings a community feel to the experience. Its menu includes 15 Cleveland-themed wines, like Rust Belt Rose and Mighty Cuyahoga Merlot. The space has a wine production area that’s visible from its chic, industrial 3,000-square-foot tasting room so guests can sip while watching the wine being made. “We’re all about creating a community space for people to come and gather,” says Burns. “It’s more like a community center that makes wine.”

4/8/2021: Some people are just born to serve others. Destiny Burns is one of those people. On the latest episode of the Women Stars Podcast, our owner Destiny shares about her time serving in the military, serving as a defense industry executive, and later, serving as a volunteer firefighter. Destiny shares how she uses her defense industry days to help her get through the pandemic, how she’s able to experience calm and content through the practice of letting go, and the joy she experiences as a role model and mentor to others. 3/19/2021: Larry Nance Jr. of the Cleveland Cavaliers supported Cleveland's small businesses throughout the 2020-21 season! Each game he promoted a small business, wearing the business's logo tshirt, promoting them on social media and auctioning off the game jersey and providing the proceeds to the business! Of note, Larry Nance Jr. personally matched the funds raised in the auction, and the Cleveland Cavaliers organization did as well! We were SO HONORED when Larry Nance Jr. wore our CLE Urban Winery tshirt into Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse for the Cleveland Cavaliers-San Antonio Spurs game on March 19th! 12/2/2021: We are so thankful to be included in the Reader Poll category of Best Wine Bar category in Cleveland Magazine's Best of Cleveland 2020 list!
11/17/2020: Cold weather brings closed doors and windows. We care deeply about you and your health and safety, so yesterday we installed an Ultraviolet Germicidal Air Purifier in our Tasting Room ventilation system. This system treats the inside air to remove viruses (including COVID-19), allergens, bacteria and mold from the air. This non-chemical application is deadly to micro-organisms exposed to the UV light rays, ensuring air is treated before being released into the room. Our Tasting Room also has a high-efficiency ventilation system for exhaust air, which ensures our air circulates and stays fresh. The investment in this air treatment system is another example of steps we take to enhance the safety of our indoor space, and we continue to abide by all state and federal COVID-19 safety and prevention guidelines and directives to the very best of our ability. 9/26/2020: We celebrated a major winery milestone this weekend! Five years ago today, Destiny made one of the best decisions she ever made... she hired Dave Mazzone as Head Winemaker to help bring her crazy dream of creating an urban winery in her beloved hometown to life. He has exceeded all her expectations and has shone so brightly in this role - we couldn’t be prouder of him or more grateful for his many contributions. His incredible expertise and professionalism continue to keep us moving forward, and his award-winning wines have received local, national and international acclaim. We could not have done this without you, Dave - here’s to many more years of adventure, partnership and amazing wines yet to come! Cheers!

6/2/2020: We hit the pause button on our Tasting Room operations on March 15th in the interest of public health and safety. In the two months since, we have sincerely appreciated all your online wine orders, your participation in our pop-up retail events, your purchases from our wholesale partners and the incredible support of our wonderful U-Dub Wine Club – all of which have kept the business going. We are continuing to make and bottle wine, and we have some very special things in the works. We are taking the appropriate next steps to re-open the Tasting Room in our changed world. So, the Tasting Room reopened today for on-premise service after 2.5 months of closure due to coronavirus concerns… Our Tasting Room has been redesigned for safe and socially distanced seating for you comfort – take a look! We’ve missed you so much and we hope to see you soon!

5/25/2020: Our owner, Destiny Burns, was so incredibly honored to have been chosen by Les Dames d’Escoffier International as a 2020 Legacy Award Winner for their Wine & Hospitality experience at Wente Vineyards Estate Winery in California! Thank you also, Marc Bona and Cleveland.com, for the kind words!! The experience was delayed until sometime in 2021 due to COVID-19 and California wildfire concerns but Destiny will keep everyone posted about it! [UPDATE: Destiny was finally able to visit Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA for this extraordinary experience from September 14-18, 2021!).

4/2/2020: During this COVID-19 crisis, many people are looking for something consistent to give us some semblance of order in our lives - and some have found it in Governor Mike DeWine's daily 2pm press conferences. In fact, there's actually a bit of a movement going on right now called "Wine with DeWine" where Ohioans enjoy a little vino while getting the news of the day from the Governor and his lovable supporting cast of characters. Destiny had the pleasure of delivering wine to Mike Polk, Jr. as he did this super fun segment on WKYC about this phenomenon... check it out! It's 2 o'clock somewhere!
3/22/2020: We are SO proud to be voted "Best Community-Conscious Business" in the Heights Observer 2020 "Best of the Heights" reader poll! We share this honor in a 3-way tie with two other amazing businesses - Quintana's Dream Spa and Speakeasy and The Wine Spot! 3/15/2020: Governor Mike DeWine closed all bars and restaurants today to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. I have always operated CLE Urban Winery as a community center that makes wine - a place for celebration, fellowship and fun. In this changed reality where it puts my beloved staff and customers at risk to gather, I fully support Governor DeWine’s decision to close bars and restaurants during this time of national emergency. It was so heart-wrenching to see this business I have worked so hard for go dark, and I was absolutely not alone as food and beverage industry entrepreneurs in Cleveland mourned, scrambled and pivoted with me. 5/15/2019: We cleaned up in the 2019 Ohio Wine Competition! We were awarded THREE Double Gold Medals (C-Town Cabernet Sauvignon, Hometown Heroes Peach Chardonnay, Drawbridge Pinot Noir), two Gold Medals (Murray Hill Pinot Grigio, Cedar-Lee Chardonnay), three Silver Medals (Shoreway Viognier, North Coast Syrah, Buckeye Blackberry Merlot) and two Bronze Medals (Lake Erie Riesling, Rust Belt Rose). Our three Double Gold Medal winning wines were featured at the 2019 Ohio State Fair!

3/1/2019: CLE Urban Winery was chosen, by local voter poll conducted by FutureHeights in their annual “Best of the Heights” contest, as BEST CLEVELAND HEIGHTS BUSINESS 2019 and BEST HEIGHTS VIBE 2019! We were also voted as Runner-Up for Best Place to Take an Out-Of-Towner, Best Interior Style and Best Customer Bathroom! Thank you so much for the vote of confidence!!

2/6/2019: We are so proud to partner with Tom’s Foolery Distillery as the source of our bourbon barrels to age our CLE Urban Wine Red Blend Reserve. Tom’s Foolery was in the news today as they were recognized by Esquire Magazine as producer’s of Ohio’s best whiskey!
1/1/2019: We were so pleased to host Kristi, Founder of Wine Taste Cleveland and Brian and the boys from The Bottlehouse and Craft Collective recently for a special tasting. Kristi immortalized the experience in her very first Founder’s Favorite blog – check it out!

11/25/2018: AMAZING NEWS! We swung for the fences, entered wines in the 2018 San Francisco International Wine Competition and won big! At this year’s highly competitive event, judges tasted more than 4,300 wines from over 31 countries around the world. Our Drawbridge Pinot Noir won a GOLD MEDAL, rated at 90 points by the judges. We also won FIVE Silver Medals for our North Coast Syrah, C-Town Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake Erie Riesling, Footlights Sauvignon Blanc and Hometown Heroes Peach Chardonnay!!! Our Edgewater Blackberry Merlot also received an Honorable Mention. WOW!
11/19/2018: Destiny was invited to chat with the anchors of Channel 19 WOIO’s Sunny Side Up morning show today – then got to share the joys of our Cleveland Rocks Christmas Red on the air!
11/17/2018: We held our 3rd Annual Graffiti & Grapes Fundraiser with community partner Graffiti heArt tonight and raised a record breaking $31,000 to fund art scholarships for underserved youth! Cheers!

9/12/2018: CLE Urban Winery was just listed as the BEST WINERY IN OHIO!! House Beautiful Magazine partnered with Yelp to compile a list of the 51 (including DC) best wineries in the United States. To do so, the review website looked at the star rating and number of customer reviews for businesses listed in the “wineries” category. 7/13/2018: CLE Urban Winery was a featured winery, along with two wineries from California and one from Spain, at “A Symphony of Food and Wine Event” at Blossom Music Center. This fabulous wine dinner fundraiser, featuring farm to table cuisine by Nosh Eatery, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Cleveland Orchestra and the 50th Anniversary of Blossom. Our winemaker, Dave Mazzone, expertly presented our Edgewater Blackberry Merlot, Footlights Sauvignon Blanc and Shoreway Viognier to the 300+ attendees. Marc Bona wrote a great article about his for Cleveland.com, and Fox 8 also did a feature story about the event.

6/10/2018: Crain’s Cleveland Business published a story on Ohio wineries, including a list of the largest producers by gallonage in 2017. CLE Urban Winery was ranked #15 on this list!
6/2/2018: We had such a marvelous time at the The Ideastream Grand Tastings and Seminars, sharing our Donuts for Grownups with the crowd following the cooking demonstration by the legendary Jacques Pepin!
5/23/2018: Results of the 2018 Ohio Wine Competition are in!!! We entered 13 wines into competition and came away with 11 medals!! Did one of your favorites win? SILVER MEDAL WINNERS: Cedar-Lee Chardonnay, Lake Erie Riesling and CLE Urban Wine Bourbon-Barrel Aged Red Blend; BRONZE MEDAL WINNERS: Murray Hill Pinot Grigio, C-Town Cabernet Sauvignon, Mighty Cuyahoga Merlot, Drawbridge Pinot Noir, North Coast Syrah, Hometown Heroes Peach Chardonnay, Rust Belt Rose and Edgewater Blackberry Merlot!
5/20/2018: So proud to announce our success at the 2018 Great American International Wine Competition! SILVER MEDAL WINNERS: Edgewater Blackberry Merlot, Lake Erie Riesling, Hometown Heroes Peach Chardonnay and North Coast Syrah; BRONZE MEDAL WINNER: Murray Hill Pinot Grigio.
4/18/2018: We won EIGHT medals (4 Silver and 4 Bronze) in the 2018 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition! There were over 3000 wines from 11 countries being judged, and we were awarded more medals than any other Ohio winery in competition. Wines are blind judged in flights, with each wine judged on its own merits – its presence, balance and varietal character – not by how it compares to other wines in the flight. We are so proud of this achievement!
4/11/2018: Destiny had the pleasure of hanging out and talking wine and life with the amazing Kate and April from Cleveland Potholes – a brand new podcast that you just have to check out! CLE Urban Winery is the subject of Episode #2!
3/30/2018: We received approvals today from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control to begin wine productions in our newly expanded winery space! Check it out!
3/17/2018: CLE Urban Winery was featured in a Cutler Real Estate blog entitled “14 Incredible Cleveland-Based Businesses Worth Supporting” with other really awesome local businesses. What an honor!
2/21/2018: So excited to be partnering with Brazilian musicians Paulo Costa Trio on their new vlog – hosting the sessions and providing sponsorship support! Destiny was also very proud to be the very first interview for this new project!

Our Syrah was one of over 1,000 wines from 12 countries that were judged by 25 judges representing nine countries over two days of competition! We are so proud!!
